Twenty years of weirdness!
The San Francisco Bay Area festival season begins with the 20th annual How Weird Street Faire on Sunday May 5, 2019 from Noon to 8pm. This unique event takes place in the heart of the new downtown of San Francisco, centered at Howard and 2nd Streets. The faire costs $20 at the entrances, and $15 in advance, and comes with a Magic Pass that includes discounts, specials, and free things throughout the event.
How Weird is a celebration of peace, creativity, and weirdness. The faire features music and art, a unique and quirky marketplace, a cannabis education area, many performances, and a wide range of excitement. There will be thousands of people in colorful costumes dancing in the streets at 9 stages of different styles of dance music.
This year the faire will showcase inspiring peace art from the Art of Peace made from reclaimed weapons, transforming tools of violence into beautiful sculptures. The Art of Peace is a project of the Robby Poblete Foundation, whose mission is not only to reduce gun violence, but also to create hope and opportunity through its art and vocational programs. Pati Navalta, Founder and Executive Director, explains, “We are taking weapons that are intended for destruction and transforming them into messages of peace.”
How Weird’s weirdest theme yet!
This year’s theme is “Time Warp: A Love Story”, a romantic look at time and the world around us, with a trip back to the Eighties. The 1880s and the 1980s, together at last in a dance-off for the ages. Dress accordingly.
