Alaska Airlines Bay to Breakers, on May 19 2019, is a spring highlight in San Francisco, held on the third Sunday in May. Now in its 107th year, the world's oldest consecutively run annual footrace typically attracts about 50,000 runners and more than 100,000 spectators.
It’s the world’s wildest footrace!
Choose a spot along the Bay to Breakers route to cheer the runners on and enjoy the spectacle. At approximately the 4-mile mark, runners enter Golden Gate Park, which takes them right through to the finish line. The course covers 7.46 miles across the city from east to west, lead by serious runners and followed by those in creative costumes and in teams of 13 or more runners tied together wearing themed costumes known as centipedes.
The name Bay to Breakers signifies the starting point at Embarcadero near San Francisco Bay and the finish line at the Great Highway, Ocean Beach, where Pacific waves break and the party begins with live music and entertainment for all.
The event is free to watch and is part fashion show, part interactive traveling circus experience.
