Surrounded by some of the greatest vineyards in the world, San Francisco is an ideal destination for an urban wine tasting experience. Opened in 2008, the Winery Collective is proud of being the first to bring bottles straight from great wineries in Napa, Sonoma, Monterey, Santa Barbara and other famous California wine country estates right to Fisherman’s Wharf, so that guests can enjoy tastings in the city.
The group of winemakers represented in this collective produce small lots and use the Fisherman’s Wharf location to get these bottles to people. Since they don’t have to answer to distributors, retailers and a supply chain, it’s a simply process of pour, taste, purchase. Members of the collective represent wineries without tasting rooms from all over California, so visitors can only sample and purchase these wines here. It's that simple...and enjoyable.
Come down and meet the family of wineries and their wines at the Winery Collective.
Sip and Savor
Red, white or rosé? There may be some sparkling wines and dessert wines on hand among the 100 wines from two dozen or more wineries that the Winery Collective has available to pour for visitors every day. It’s a great way to end a day on the wharf.
Those who stop in at the bar range from experienced winemakers to novices. Just let the server know what your own expectations are, and they will adjust accordingly.
Some visitors wonder about the ‘flights’ menu. A flight is what winery professionals call a tasting experience of several wines. Several flights will be available, so choose one and discover your favorite varietals and vintages. The server is be happy to tell guests more about the labels and to discuss the tasting notes in more detail so everyone can learn about California wines as they taste. There are even labels from wines made on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay, technically within the city boundaries.
Take it home
Some people choose a bottle to take to dinner or out on a picnic in the park. Others make a selection to take home, as many of these artisan, small production wines are unique to the Winery Collective. For those shipping three or more bottles, discounts are available. A case can be mixed, made up of different selections.
Find the San Francisco Winery Collective in a pretty brick building with a street entrance just beside the Argonaut Hotel, 485 Jefferson Street, in the heart of Fisherman’s Wharf. Ben & Jerry’s is next door, too.
