Willkommen! It’s party time Oktoberfest-style in San Francisco on the weekend of September 22 - 24, 2017. More than six million people will head for Munich, Germany for the 16-day harvest festival, but if you’re headed for San Francisco, you can join the party here. Come to Pier 48, where the huge space as big as four football fields is filled with the oom-pah-pah of the 21-piece Chico Bavarian Band. There’s singing, dancing and lots of food and drink for the sell-out event that’s a popular draw every year.
If you’re headed for the City by the Bay in late September, pack your lederhosen and dirndls to join the party. Practice your German drinking songs, especially the words to “Ein Prosit.” It’s a crowd favorite, for after each chorus, everyone raises their glasses and says: “Oans, zwoa, drei, Gsuffa!” meaning “one, two, three, drink!”. Do the chicken dance, have your sausage and sauerkraut and say "Prost!" with steins of German brew. Food and dessert items range from around $3 to $12 each. Beer and wine is $6 a glass.
Tickets are sold separately for each of the four party sessions. Opening night is Friday, Sept. 21, 2017 at 5pm, when the fun continues until midnight. On Saturday, Sept. 23, two parties are ticketed for admission between 11am and 5pm or from 6pm until 12am. Sunday is family day, when Ockoberfest by the Bay is open from 11am to 6pm. Purchase your tickets in advance - if the online site is sold out, there will be no ticket sales at the door.
Parking is found at AT&T Park, across the street. Public transportation on Caltrain and Muni is easy and fast on the KT rail line to Mission Rock and 3rd Street.
