The entire month of September is dedicated to an annual festival by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in San Francisco and the Center for Architecture and Design. Now in its 14th year, the festival presents an opportunity for residents and visitors alike to observe the city in a new light, getting a behind-the-scenes look through walking tours, a film series, lectures, and more events.
For 2017, the festival theme is “Secret City,” dedicated to exploring how architecture and design arts can proactively respond to urban challenges.
The opening night party on Sept. 1 takes place at Pier 17, on the Embarcadero from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Closing Night Party will be held at AIA SF, 130 Sutter from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Five different city neighborhood walking tours on dates throughout the month have a general admission price of $15 for members and $25 for general admission. Tuesdays at noon are sketch meetups at different locations in the city. Four film screenings take place on Wednesday evenings. Mechanics' Institute Treasure Hunt is a special outdoor event on Sept. 15 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
